The children of Kinshasa Version Française In 2007, we created the Otello Foundation in memory of Otello to raise money to help children around the world. We decided to help the children of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. Kinshasa, has experienced a rise in the number of witchcraft accusations among 3-18 year olds over the past ten years. In a city of six million, an estimated 30,000 children live in the streets as a result of this phenomenon.   Read more As a Westerner living far removed from the daily realities of life in the Democratic Republic of Congo or any other similar countries, we feel it is our duty to help these children. In September 2005, La communauté du Chemin Neuf, a Roman Catholic community where Alexandra's brother, Father Jean-David, belongs, rented a house to help the children. The children named the house Ndako Ya Biso: our home. More photos The goal of the center is to help the children and prove to them that love is possible and that family life can be rebuilt. The members of the Community help the children throughout the day. They can take a shower, get some aid, wash their clothes, play and rest, eat, have someone to talk to. The children will participate in a support program. This program will help them to prepare for a placement in school, teach them to love to learn and the merits of discipline. Several members will help the children to find their families. If found, they will negotiate with them the reintegration of the children. They will follow the reintegration and the life of the child. Since September 2005, they were able to reunite more than 100 children with their family. The street children, helped by the members of the community, are sent to school. This year, their wish would be to open new classes of grade school at the school Sainte Christine to allow these children to go further in their education. These children need the care and the education that they deserve to allow them a better future. More photos If Otello is not with us anymore, we would like his memory to help and save these children.
